Dehradun has over 34,000 stray dogs. If we don't do something now, it may become impossible in the future.

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation estimates that the number of stray dogs is actually closer to 50,000. Help tackle this issue one dog at a time and create a better environment for both them and us to live in.

Unfortunately, with the rise of stray dogs in Dehradun, the number of dog bites has supposedly also increased. There are 2 reasons why dogs are aggressive:

  1. Lack of space: Like all living beings, dogs need to have space to live. But in cities that are increasingly more packed, the fight for territory can become quite vicious. Dogs fight over territory because that's where they get fed and don't want to have to share with new dogs.

  2. Bad experiences: Regrettably, there are many dogs who experience violence and threats from humans from a very young age, or even when they're not being aggressive. There are people who find it entertaining to throw rocks or hot water at dogs or even beat them with sticks for no reason. This has caused dogs to be weary and suspicious of humans.

Animal Birth Control And Vaccinations

Animal Birth Control (aka ABC) has been taking place over decades by government initiatives as well as charitable organisations like ourselves. However, there is no unified database where the dogs that are being treated are entered in to. The result is that many dogs are being picked up more than once and being operated on by students or those who can't tell that the poor dogs have already undergone this exact surgery.

The same is true for vaccinations such as rabies, distemper, canine parvovirus, hepatitis. Some dogs are picked up too often, being injected with the same vaccines over and over again which of course causes them to become very sick and sometimes even kills them.
