Welcome to AKELA!

This is Akela, the little girl who, being left alone, inspired the name of the trust. She has now been adopted by the founder.
AKELA was established in 2020 amidst the global Covid pandemic. It was partly in response to all the unfed strays due to lockdowns, but also the culmination of decades of work looking after animals without homes, providing medical care, food, and shelter. There are many organisations that already do this, and yet the numbers of strays continues to grow at exponential rates. We hope to partner and work together with like-minded organisations and individuals to tackle this problem more vigorously than ever before.
Almost every week there are stories in the news and social media about the division that stray animals cause between people in India. Many communities are pushing the government to take drastic measures to get rid of the problem. We want to completely stop the reproduction of more stray animals before laws come into place which will allow these animals to be killed en mass.
Since we're a small fledgling trust, at the beginning of a long and hopeful journey, we need all the help we can get. Whether you're affected by animals on the street or if you want them to have a safe shelter, perhaps you even hate dogs and want them out of site; please consider partnering with AKELA so that we can start making more progress and bigger changes.

Our goal is to get as many animals off the street, into shelters where they will be provided with medical care, food and hopefully be adopted into a new family.
Even if you are unable to help financially, we would still value your help and voice in advocating this cause with your friends and making known the plight of stray animals in India. Let's save lives together!
