Adopt
There are a few things to consider before adopting a pet.
Depending on what animal you're thinking of adopting, you should make sure you have the time and space for that particular animal. A cat, for example, needs less space and attention than a dog. And unless you have a big garden or outside space, a dog should be taken for at least one walk a day, if not more. That's their bathroom time and most of us go more than once!

Remember that adopting a pet should be a long-term commitment. Dogs and cats can live to be over 10 years old. Too many animals end up on the streets because the owners grow tired of the pet. They get a cute little puppy but when it grows up, they're either afraid of it, can't afford it, or are bored of it.

Be realistic about your preference. If you're a low energy person, then don't opt for a high energy pet because it'll only lead to both of you becoming frustrated. Get a pet that suits your personality and lifestyle.

Apart from that, a pet can end up being one of your best investments. There's a reason they say a dog is a mans' best friend. A pet really can be your lifetime companion, always there for you when you return home.

When picking a pet, it's best if you meet face to face before making a decision, to see how you get along. It's common that people leave the shelter with an entirely different pet than the one they'd originally set their minds on because they form an immediate bond with each other.
